Man, 55, arrested in shooting of son
A 55-year-old Waimanalo man was arrested Sunday after he fired a shot at his son that struck him near his eye.
The suspect has been released pending further investigation of possible second-degree attempted murder charges. The 34-year-old son fled before police and an ambulance arrived and was not found, police said.
The two men began arguing at about 10 a.m. Sunday on Waikupanaha Street. When the son threw an object at his father, the older man fired a shot from a .22 caliber handgun.
The victim was heard saying he was shot in the eye, police said.
Motorcycle accident victim identified
The victim in a Dec. 23 motorcycle accident on the Big Island who died last week was identified yesterday as Malcolm Hulsey of Kailua-Kona.
Big Island police said that Hulsey, 50, was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson south on Kohala Mountain Road at about 2:08 p.m. when he crossed the center line on a right bend in the road, struck an embankment and fell onto the pavement. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
He was taken to North Hawai'i Community Hospital and then flown to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died last Wednesday of his injuries.
Confrontation leads to arrest
A Kaimuki man was confronted Saturday night by three men with a shotgun who demanded money and property.
The incident reportedly happened at 8 p.m. at an 8th Avenue home, where the victim, 29, was approached by an acquaintance and two accomplices. One of the men displayed the shotgun when the victim resisted the demands, police said, and the victim sustained minor injuries in the scuffle that followed.
One suspect, the acquaintance, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said.
Soldier charged in 2001 assault case
A Schofield Barracks soldier, 26, was arrested and charged Saturday with second-degree assault in connection with a nearly year-old case involving a Waikiki prostitute.
The crime occurred at about 3:30 a.m. March 3, when the suspect paid the woman, a 37-year-old 'Ewa Beach resident, to have sex with him. Later, the man allegedly punched the woman and broke her nose, and then fled with the woman's purse.
Police said the case was reported late, but the Central O'ahu crime reduction unit began investigating and arrested Daniel Hutchinson Saturday. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Pair forced from car by gunman
A man and woman on Friday were forced at gunpoint to leave the car they were driving as they stopped at the intersection of Hobron Lane and Ala Moana Boulevard.
The woman, 19, was driving a car her 23-year-old companion had borrowed from his roommate, police said. While waiting at a red light at about 11:20 a.m., a 23-year-old man whom the pair knew approached them with a handgun and told them to leave the car. The man got in the car and drove off, police said.
Tourists robbed near Makaha
A tourist couple enjoying the view near Makaha on Friday were robbed by a man and a woman.
The 29-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, visiting from Alaska, were at Lahilahi Point at 2 p.m. when the male robber struck the man with a pipe. The woman, about 20, reportedly grabbed the beach bag from the woman tourist.
The pair fled toward Farrington Highway, police said.
