Kailua heads baseball tourney

Defending state champion Kailua High is among 16 teams participating in the 22nd Mid-Pacific Institute/Richard Kitamura Baseball Tournament, which runs tomorrow through Sunday at various sites.

The tournament has two eight-team pools, with the winners of each pool advancing to an overall championship.

Three teams from California, six from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and seven from the O'ahu Interscholastic Association will compete in the tournament.

Here is the first-round schedule. All games start at 3:30 p.m.

Pool A (tomorrow) — Game A1: Soquel (Calif.) vs. Leilehua at Mid-Pacific; Game A2: Moanalua at Iolani; Game A3: Castle vs. St. Louis at Ala Wai Field; Game 4A: Kailua vs. Damien at DeSa Field.

Pool B (Thursday) — Game B1: Independence (San Jose, Calif.) at Mid-Pacific; Game B2: Punahou vs. Roosevelt at Stevenson Intermediate; Game B3: Mililani vs. Marin Catholic (Kentfield, Calif.) at Ala Wai Field; Game B4: Kamehameha vs. Kalaheo at DeSa Field.
