The winner of the 2003 Mercedes Championships PGA golf tournament next January will take home $1 million.
Organizers announced last week that the purse will be raised $1 million, to $5 million, next year.
Earlier, it was announced that the tournament will remain at the Kapalua Plantation Course on Maui at least four more years. The 2003 tournament will be Jan. 9-12.
"The agreement in principle that we announced during the 2002 Mercedes Championships is now signed and complete," said Paul Halata, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA.
The Mercedes Championships, which brings together the winners from the previous year, moved to Maui in 1999. David Duval won it that first year, followed by Tiger Woods (2000), Jim Furyk (2001) and Sergio Garcia (2002).
