Vicki Cayetano

Advertiser Staff

You just know that Vicky Cayetano already has plans for exactly what she's going to do when she leaves Washington Place at the end of the year. While she's not saying exactly, you can bet she'll be spending some of that political capital she saved up in four years as first lady to establish herself as an effective voice for local business, or children, or the poor, or the arts — or all of them.

Few others can speak authoritatively about the challenges of running a multimillion-dollar business as well as the need to help those who have fallen through the social safety net. Cayetano knows that taking care of Hawai'i's own makes good business sense, aside from being the decent thing to do. Cayetano is smart, tough and charming, and a lot less likely to hold a grudge than her husband. While she's not entirely comfortable in the spotlight, she knows how to use it to her advantage. Watch her bloom as a community leader as she moves out from the shadow of the governor's mansion.
