Not a great year here, either

The biggest music acts touring the country last year included U2, *Nsync, The Dave Matthews Band and Madonna. So what did Honolulu get? Let's just say it was a banner year for Sister Hazel fans.

Still, the year wasn't all that bad, as 2001 offered concerts for many musical tastes.

Acts as diverse as Elton John, Snoop Dogg, B.B. King and Diana Krall played Blaisdell dates early in the year, while Charlotte Church turned out to be the summer's biggest concert draw outside of perennial fave fests such as the Makaha Bash and KCCN Birthday Bash. MTV's much-touted Honolulu TRL Tour stop translated to "Total Request Lousy"; Eve and Nelly bailed out, fearing air travel troubles after Sept. 11, and Destiny's Child canceled one of two scheduled dates.

Surprisingly though, more acts braved the skies for later Hawai'i shows. Tool, Take 6, Shaggy, and Blues Traveler all swung by in October and November, and industry "It" girl Alicia Keys did a post-midnight show at the World Cafe in December. The Hilton Hawaiian Village even enticed former sex machine James Brown to creak back on the scene for a New Year's Eve show.
