New recreation center to be built for Mililani

By Scott Ishikawa
Advertiser Central O'ahu Writer

MILILANI — Construction of the seventh and final Mililani Town Association recreation center is scheduled to start in the spring.

Castle & Cooke Homes Hawai'i Inc. official Carol Kwan said the facility in Mililani Mauka should be ready by summer 2003.

The approximately 10,000-square-foot building will be constructed on 3.9 acres at the corner of Lehiwa Drive and Meheula Parkway, next to a planned elementary school and existing Board of Water Supply reservoirs.

Amenities include:

  • A multi-purpose room with a capacity of 300 people. The room will have striping for a basketball half-court, one volleyball court, and a stage alcove for parties.
  • A 25-meter, five-lane swimming pool.
  • Wading pool
  • Kitchen
  • Toilet/showers
  • On-site parking

Kwan said the building's design and amenities were based on a recent MTA survey sent to residents, and current demand at the other six recreation centers.

The recreation center will be based about 280 feet from the nearest residential development. The facility will be available only to MTA members, which represents about 13,750 Mililani households, and their guests.

Also planned for the Mililani Mauka area is a second area elementary school next to the planned recreation center and a community arts center a block away.
