Man injured in fall off Kahuku cliff

Advertiser Staff

A 55-year-old Punalu'u man was rescued early today after he fell off a cliff while searching for a lost puppy.

Police officers at the Kahuku station were called about 12:30 a.m. to a trail behind a home at 53-594 Kamehameha Highway. Neighbors had heard the man crying for help.

The man told police he had gone up the trail about 6:30 p.m. yesterday to look for the puppy. While returning, he did not realize he was near a cliff and fell 30 feet.

Police said he was unconscious for several hours. He was taken to Kahuku Hospital and treated for a fractured left forearm, broken right hand and bruises and scrapes.

The puppy was not found, police said.
