Online boot camp instructs new dads

At newdads.com, dads learn how to teach their young ones to golf. Dads should keep a tight grip on their babies, allowing them to concentrate fully on their set-up. And babies should have a tight grip on their clubs.
Rookie dads can pick up a few pointers about parenthood by checking out newdads.com. The biggest draw for men might be the step-by-step guide to teaching the little one how to golf. And curious women might want to check out the pictures of burly guys interacting with babies.

The site also gives tips on:

  • "Burrito-wrapping" the baby.
  • Retaping used diapers in the shape of a ball to free-throw into the trash.
  • Learning to bicycle the baby's legs to relieve the baby's gas.

The site also has a serious side. Real boot camps for dads are taking place in more than 100 communities nationwide, pairing fathers-to-be with veteran dads and their babies to teach some basics of fatherhood. Honolulu has yet to form its own camp, but spots are available for the program's annual conference about "best practices for new fathers" that will be held near Disneyland in March.

Look lighter without loosing any weight

It's impossible to lose 10 pounds without lifting a finger. But looking 10 pounds thinner? That might be a possibility. InStyle magazine's January issue offers tips for women on how to get the leanest look possible. They stress the single most important factor is fit.

For the neckline, think vertical.

A slim V-neck or open buttons show off the clavicle and elongate the neck. The waistline is best suited by showing off curves in tailored pieces. There is also no need for extraneous material around the midsection, so stick to flat-front pants. A long line is desirable and can be enhanced by knee-length coats, except on petite women, and heels. Pants should also be worn long, breaking over the middle of the foot. A single color scheme creates an unbroken line; black is a powerful slimmer but any color will work.

InStyle also explains that pale colors reflect light and should be used to showcase your assets while dark colors help absorb light and take away some of the attention.

Paper doll reveals presidential briefs

Boxers or briefs for President Bush? Briefs, if you believe "George W. Bush and His Family Paper Dolls," the latest in the series of collectible cut-and-clothe books, just out (Dover Publications, $5.95).

In the book by Tom Tierney, eight paper dolls depict the First Family, including Bush and wife Laura and their twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna. There are 26 outfits for everything from ball park to presidential galas.

And yes, Dubya in his undies. Briefs.
