CAROLINE TOLLEFSON, former chairwoman of the Miss Hawai'i scholarship pageant's scholarship committee and chairwoman of the Honolulu Symphony Ball, died Thursday in Honolulu. She was 48. See story.

SAMIUELA ALOFAKI TAUTUIAKI, 71, of Waipahu, died Dec. 30, 2001. Born in Ahau, Tonga. A former landscaper. HENRY ROBERT TAYLOR, 87, of Wahiawa, died Dec. 9, 2001. Born in Minneapolis, N.C. A retired U.S. Army automotive maintenance supervisor. GAIL HIDEKO TENGAN, 72, of Ho-nolulu, died Dec. 23, 2001. Born in Waipahu. Survived by husband, Fred; daughter, Faith Wood; three grandchildren; brothers, Jutei, Shigeru and Hidemi Kiyabu; sisters, Haruko Yasuda, Tomie Nakahado, Fusaye Kiyabu, Mineko Lee and Kiyoko Tengan. BROTHER JAMES FRANCIS WIPFIELD, director for a time of the Marianist community in Honolulu serving St. Louis High School and Chaminade University, has died. He was active locally in choral groups, civic affairs, pro-life groups and was a vigorous supporter of his favorite athletic teams. A Mass was said in his name at the Marianist Center in Cupertino, Calif. Burial was at the Gate of Heaven cemetery at the center.

GUO LUN XU, 62, of Honolulu, died Dec. 26, 2001. Born in China. Survived by wife, Zhao Yan Chen; sons, Derek Jian Ming Chee and Jian Bin Xu; daughter, Yong Xia Xu Lee; three grandchildren; brothers, Guo Chao, Guo Xian and Guo Hui. Taoist service 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Borthwick Mortuary; burial 1 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park.

SAMUEL SOKEE YOU, 73, of Mountain View, Hawai'i, died Dec. 30, 2001. Born in Hilo, Hawai'i. Retired from the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division. A painter and owner of Sam You Painting Company. Survived by wife, Chiaki; sons, Robert, Walter and Adrian; daughter, Theresa Imade; six grandchildren; three brothers; three sisters. Family service and scattering of ashes held.
