Trust, The Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian Center. A multimedia installation by UH professor Anne Bush explores the relationship between language and space and the alliance between bank and museum. By placing money in the public realm, the artist plays with the notion of "trust." Jan. 11-April 23

Pen, Pencil and Brush, Honolulu Academy of Arts. American drawings and watercolors, 1850-1950, including a stunning pastel by Mary Cassatt, recently acquired by the academy. The 30 drawings to be shown are Academy treasures that are rarely exhibited because of their fragility. Among the artists are Winslow Homer, Charles Demuth, John Marin and Isamu Noguchi. Escape from the Vault, The Contemporary Museum. Works by 70 contemporary artists from the museum's rarely exhibited collection. Jan. 25-March 24
George Woollard, Jinja Kim/Lynne Ohtani/heart jewelry by gallery artists, Gallery at Ward Centre. Jan. 26-Feb. 22
Taisho Chic, Honolulu Academy of Arts. Early 20th-century Japanese paintings, prints and decorative arts drawn from the academy's collection reflect the blending of East and West and especially the influence of Art Deco. The changing role of women in Japanese culture is a central theme of the exhibition. Jan. 31-March 17

Hammond, a New York artist, asked Ashbery to create a set of unique titles that would be the catalyst for her paintings, thereby challenging preconceived notions about the conventions of painting. Ansel Adams, Honolulu Academy of Arts. Photographs made in Hawai'i in the 1950s and 60s by the master of landscape photography. Shown together for the first time, the prints reflect the untouched landscapes and thriving urban environment of Hawai'i at mid-century. June 27-Aug. 4
Yida Wang, Honolulu Academy of Arts. Rich drawings and paintings evoking the artist's native China. Wang is the seventh recipient of the prestigious Catharine E. B. Cox Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts, presented by the academy every other year. June 27-Aug. 25
