Qualifying for Sony Open

A group of 72 players, including several with local ties, will be vying for four spots in the PGA Tour's Sony Open in qualifying tomorrow at the Pearl Country Club.

Kane'ohe's Dean Wilson, a Japan PGA Tour member, will be among those trying to qualify for the PGA event, which runs Wednesday-Sunday at Waialae Country Club.

There is no admission to watch qualifying at Pearl Country Club.

For the Sony Open at Waialae, the events tomorrow and Tuesday are free. On Wednesday and Thursday there will be a $10 charge, while on Saturday and Sunday there will be a $15 charge.

Brad Faxon, the defending champion, highlights the Sony Open field. Sergio Garcia, Mark O'Meara and Fred Couples are among other notables that will play in the $4 million tournament.
