Wahine magazine sees last wave

Wahine, the first magazine devoted to women's surfing, is ending publication.

The Long Beach-based magazine, which had a circulation of 30,000 to 40,000, was published quarterly. It had competition from Surfing Girl magazine.

"Wahine has had such a passionate readership," said editor Elizabeth Glazner. "Our readers confess an appreciation for Wahine that is unparalleled, probably because the magazine has been truly inspired."

Launched in 1994, Wahine "led women's surfing out of the Dark Ages," said publisher Marilyn Edwards.

The magazine's name will continue to be used for special issues, books, calendars and clothing.

Stroller controller in a kickstand

It's a kickstand for strollers, it has won the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, and it's fast becoming part of wish lists for baby showers.

StrollerStand, from Parentwise, is intended to prevent strollers from tipping over when they are pulled down by the weight of handbags.

The aluminum kickstand, which fits on the back of a stroller, works just like a bike kickstand. Some parents say one drawback that it interferes with the folding of some of the popular umbrella strollers.

It's available for $16.99 at (888) 534-4424 or parentwise.com.
