Volunteer to be honored
The Rotary Club of Windward O'ahu is seeking nominees for its outstanding volunteer honor to be awarded in April.
The club and the Windward Rotary Endowment Fund are sponsoring the search for a person who lives, works or volunteers on the Windward side. Rotarians are not eligible for nomination.
To nominate someone, write a letter explaining what that person has done and why he or she should receive the Service Above Self Award. Mail the information before Feb. 8 to the Nomination Committee, P.O. Box 122, Kailua, HI 96734.
The Rotary endowment fund gives four-year scholarships to Windward high school graduates who would otherwise be unable to attend college.

HPU to award 650 degrees
Nearly 650 Hawai'i Pacific University students will receive associate, baccalaureate or master's degrees in ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Waikiki Shell. It will be the independent university's 50th commencement.
Students Anna Beronius, Ingrid Nohea Seiple and Michael C. Perry chosen for outstanding academic performance and community service will offer valedictory speeches representing the baccalaureate programs, graduate programs and satellite degree programs, respectively.
Retired Adm. R.J. Zlatoper, a trustee of the James Campbell Estate, will deliver the commencement address. Zlatoper also will receive HPU's highest honor, the Fellow of the Pacific Award, for his many contributions to the community.
Skateboarding area on agenda
The location of a skateboarding area within Kalihi Valley District Park will be discussed at the Kalihi Valley Neighborhood Board meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the district park.
Consultant Bryce Uyehara will talk about the proposed skateboarding area and whether it be able to accommodate other users such as rollerbladers.
The city Department of Environmental Services will also give a presentation on repairs for a broken sewer line at 2324 Nihi St.
