• June 3, 2001: Police shot and killed a 20-year-old Dustin Long after an hours-long standoff at the Long's Wahiawa home. The incident beganwhen Long fired shots at a carload of young men who had been attending a party at Long's family home. It ended when Long fired shots at two Specialized Services Division officers, who fired back, killing Long.
• April 17, 2001: Levi Esperas, 27, died of a chest wound after a gunfight with police that erupted after officers stopped a van on a medial area of the H-2 Freeway near the Ka Uka Boulevard off-ramp.
• March 15, 2001: A single rifle shot was fired as officer Randolph Chong Tim struggled to subdue Gerald Silva, 45, outside the police station in Lihu'e, Kaua'i. No one was harmed.
• Jan. 14, 2001: A police officer shot and wounded a 34-year-old man in Mililani who was riding a stolen motorcycle.
• Jan. 13, 2001: Officers responding to a call at Ala Moana shot Michell Udani, 26, who had fatally shot his ex-girlfriend. Udani was killed in the police shooting.
• Oct. 3, 2000: Bernard C. Crivello, 25, was killed during a traffic-stop confrontation with a 29-year-old police officer in Waikiki.
• Sept. 16, 2000: A police officer shot and wounded bank robbery suspect Philip Caban, 51, on Date Street after Caban allegedly fired at pursuing officers.
• Sept. 7, 2000: After a daylong standoff, Frank Williams Jr., 35, shot himself when a team from the Maui Police Department entered his Wailuku home.
• Aug. 30, 2000: A Pearl City policeman shot and wounded a 14-year-old Mililani boy when the officer thought the youth was pulling a gun from his waistband.
• Feb. 2, 2000: Allan Dequito, 27, shot and wounded Ho-nolulu police officer Richard Kellett before fatally shooting Dequito's wife and then killing himself.
• Jan. 28, 2000: After a 13-hour standoff with police along Farrington Highway in Wai'anae, during which police fired nonlethal projectiles, Dominic Kealoha, 28, shot himself.
• Jan. 23, 2000: Pedro Hanalei Barawis-Haili, 20, and Ronald Kimo Barawis, 22, were accused of shooting at a Big Island policeman during a traffic stop.
• July 7, 1999: Following a bank robbery in Kahala, Albert Batalona, 24, fired at a police officer arriving at the scene. Officer Fred Rosskopf, 45, returned fire.
• October 1998: A 22-hour standoff in Pacific Palisades ended when police shot Wayman Kaua, 31, in the head, wounding him.
• September 1998: Peter Moses, 21, grabbed a police officer's handgun in a struggle near Makapu'u, shooting officer Earl Haskell in the abdomen. Officers returned fire; Moses was struck nearly 10 times in both legs, his shoulder and neck.
• June 1998: Big Island police officer John Pagay shot and killed 34-year-old Jon Webster Pavao after responding to a 911 call. Pagay said Pavao aimed a handgun at him.
