Speeding driver tries to hit bicyclist

A driver speeding down a Mililani street last night is being sought for attempted murder after he tried to ram a cyclist who asked him to slow down.

Police were called just before 9 p.m. when the cyclist, sitting astride his bike but stopped on Kaulia Place, reported that a driver had been speeding. When the cyclist stopped the car and told its driver not to speed, the driver ran into the bike; the victim jumped off the bike before the impact.

The driver fled the scene, and police put out an all-points bulletin.

Man robbed by four at Poka'i Bay

A 41-year-old man was robbed by four men while he sat in his car at Poka'i Bay Beach Park yesterday.

The man told police he was in his car at 11:15 a.m. when a 19-year-old man got into the car and asked for money the victim owed him. A second suspect, 21, stood by the driver's window and told the driver to hand over his watch. The victim placed the watch on the dashboard, and a third man, 19, reached in and grabbed it.

The first two suspects made threats and showed handguns. The victim got out of his car, brandishing a knife, and walked away.

Police have arrested the first two suspects; the 19-year-old and a fourth man, also 19, are being sought in the case.

Police yesterday arrested a 42-year-old Kaimuki man in connection with an extortion case, in which the suspect had threatened an acquaintance to force him to sign over ownership of his car.

The victim, 41, said he was confronted by the acquaintance on Friday night. The suspect reportedly told the victim he would hurt him, his girlfriend and their baby unless he signed over the car.

The car was located shortly after midnight yesterday at the suspect's 12th Avenue residence. Police were called and while they were on the scene, the suspect reappeared and was arrested.

Man charged in November shooting

David A. Harraway, 32, has been charged for attempted murder and firearms offenses in the Nov. 10 shooting of a woman, who lost her left eye in the injury.

The Kapahulu man is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The victim, accompanied by her brother and others, had come to Harraway's home on Brokaw Street to collect on a loan. An argument broke out.

When the suspect came from the back of the house with a shotgun, police said, the visitors fled to their car. The suspect then shot into the car, and the woman was struck in her left eye, police said.
