"American Music Awards", 7 p.m., ABC. Performers include Britney Spears, Usher, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Lenny Kravitz, Shaggy and Kid Rock. Garth Brooks, whose career was propelled by a strong appearance on the show, will receive a career award.

Of Note

"The West Wing," 8 p.m., NBC. Leo reacts angrily to a compromise in the investigation of the president.

"Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration," 8 p.m., CBS. A rerun of Jackson's Madison Square Garden concert, which includes previously unaired footage.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. When a priest is slain, the investigation takes some surprising twists.
