SISTER ELLEN JOAN MALONE, CSJ, 86, of St. Paul, Minn., died Jan. 1, 2002. She served in Hawai'i for 24 years. Involved in the FAST Science Program specializing in Hawaiian water systems and a member of the Hawai'i Science Teacher's Association, she taught at St. Theresa, Holy Trinity and St. Anthony Schools and was later in charge of the Kailua parish's computer bookkeeping system. She was an accomplished baker, enjoyed introducing visitors to Hanauma Bay and was known for her colorful "ribbon" mobiles. She retired to the Carondelet community's retirement center in Minnesota in 1991.

RENATO CORTEZ NAVARRO, 64, of Honolulu, died Jan. 7, 2002. Born in Pampanga, Philippines. A teacher in the Philippines before moving to Hawai'i. Survived by brother, Ramon; sisters, Aurelia Navarro, Cora Montserrat, Rosita Figueroa and Marieta Dimabuyu.
