Hotel occupancy recedes after New Year's peak

Occupancy at Hawai'i's hotels reached 75.0 percent on New Year's Eve, the highest occupancy since the Sept. 11 attacks, before retreating to 53.2 percent occupancy, according to the latest Weekly Hotel Alert by Hospitality Advisors LLC.
The average daily rate on New Year's Eve reached $210.32, but hotel occupancy and room rates for the traditional busy holiday trailed the prior year by 4.0 percent and 8.2 percent for the night, respectively.
