Punahou 5-0 in girls' soccer
Advertiser Staff
Adria Campbell scored two goals and Megan Abbott also scored to lead the unbeaten Punahou School girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over previously unbeaten Iolani in Interscholastic League of Honolulu action yesterday.
Campbell scored off an assist by Charlene Lui in the 36th minute to give visiting Punahou (5-0) a 1-0 lead. Abbott scored off Kaily Lam's assist in the 43rd minute to put the Buffanblu up 2-0.
Iolani (4-1) had a penalty kick opportunity shortly after, but the attempt sailed over the crossbar.
"We were happy they missed, because those kind of things can shift the momentum," Punahou coach Jorge Barbosa said. "But our girls knew how important this game was. They came out to play."
Campbell, a junior forward, scored an unassisted goal in the 69th minute to give the Buffanblu a 3-0 lead.
Kara Ishikawa scored Iolani's goal unassisted in the 80th minute.
