Hawai'i author, therapist talks on sexual diversity

Advertiser Staff

A former Hawai'i teacher and therapist has returned to Honolulu this weekend as a featured author.

Kay Mehl Miller reads from her book, "Talking It Over: Understanding Sexual Diversity," at 3 p.m. today at Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Kahala Mall.

Miller's book begins in Hawai'i in 1984, when her son, Steve, told her he was gay. As she writes, the conversation changed her life. Eventually, her pain faded to acceptance. Her son's partner led her to writing a column for Island Lifestyle magazine, and as Miller says, "an activist was born."

Her book ($19.95, published by Word & Quill) describes her struggle to understand and overcome homophobia and is dedicated to her son's partner.

Call Barnes & Noble, 737-3323, for more information.
