HAL WOOD had a newspaper and wire service career that spanned 57 years and much of the globe — but he would call his 12 years as sports editor of The Honolulu Advertiser, “the happiest of my life.” He died yesterday in Medford, Ore., at age 92. See story.

WILLIAM B. "BILL" BEARD, 51, of Vista, Calif., formerly of Honolulu, died Jan. 4, 2002. Born in Jacksonville, Fla. A building contractor and former president of Pacific General Contractors and First General Services of Honolulu. A Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Army. Survived by wife, Ruth "George"; son, Scott; parents, William and Wanda; brothers, James and Larry; a grandchild. No service held. Scattering of ashes to be held off of Waikiki at a later date. WILLIAM F. BEARD, 68, of Charlottesville, Va., formerly of Honolulu, died Dec. 31, 2001. Born in Cincinnati. A retired Air Force pilot. BEATRICE S. CABRAL, 72, of Kane'ohe, died Jan. 15, 2002. Born in Honolulu. A paramedical assistant for Hawai'i State Hospital, Kane'ohe. ERNEST A. JACKSON, 76, of Lexington, Ky., died Jan. 14, 2002. Born in Saugus, Mass. Chairman of the European Language Department of the University of Hawai'i for 11 years. A consultant to the State Department of Education. A World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army. Survived by nieces and nephews, among them, Phillip Brown and Carolyn Senders; sister-in-law, Mary Brown. Mainland service and inurnment held.

DOLORES "DOLLY" MASOCOL, 67, of Wahiawa, died Jan. 15, 2002. Born in Waialua. A state custodian retired from Ka'ala Elementary School who also worked for AAFES. Survived by husband, Rodney; son, Steve Kapaona; daughters, Roxanne Navitt, Ronnie Kalanui, Romana Butler, and Rodlynn and Raenette Masocol; brothers, Bernard Tabije, Joe San Miguel and Alfred Omalaza; sisters, Rose Buenrostro and Sophie Balanay; eight grandchildren. TOKI MCCRARY, 69, of Kaimuki, died Jan. 15, 2002. A retired seamstress.
