Learn big from little-known source

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

Children and parents can satisfy their curiosity on a variety of subjects — from bats to the U.S. Constitution and nutrition to the Internet — with help from a resource relatively few people realize is publicly available: the Superintendent of Documents.

The Superintendent of Documents — the title of a person and the name of an organization in Washington, D.C. — is part of the U.S. Government Printing Office and a source of official information published by hundreds of federal agencies.

You can choose from an array of publications, including booklets, CD-ROMs, pamphlets and videos. Titles include "Our Flag" ($3) and "Recipes and Tips for Healthy, Thrifty Meals" ($5). For details, visit bookstore.gpo.gov or call toll-free, (866) 512-1800.
