Vulcans in a baseball tie

Hawai'i-Hilo rallied from a first-inning, 5-0 deficit to tie Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, 8-8, in a baseball game that was called after eight innings because of time constraints.

The game, held at Old Kona Airport field, was halted after one out in the ninth to allow Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo enough time to return to Hilo and make its flight home.

Nalei Sooto hit a solo homer and a two-run shot for the Vulcans, who are 0-7-1 on the season.

Keola Park and Jeremy Loqua each added two hits for Hilo.

Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo (3-0-1) won the first game of the doubleheader, 9-2, behind Bryan Gant's two-hit, three-RBI performance.

Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo swept a doubleheader Sunday, winning 10-0 and 10-4.

Tony Alcantar and Brian Haskell had three RBIs apiece in the first game, and Kyle Wilson batted 3-for-4, including a home run, in the second.

Daniel Lockett, Keola Park and Ryan Hanohano each had two hits for Hilo in the second game.
