Chase leads to car-theft arrest

A teenage boy driving a white van early today behaved suspiciously enough that a patrol officer followed him, leading to a chase through Waipahu and the boy's arrest for car theft.

The pursuit began around 5:30 a.m., police said. The driver, 17, ran through stop lights in an effort to escape. The driver and his 24-year-old female passenger were arrested.

Man flees with customer's cash

A 20-year-old man who met a customer in Wai'anae yesterday to sell him a guitar instead took the money and ran.

The victim, 51, was counting out the money when the younger man grabbed the money and fled.

As he drove away, he pointed an unknown object that the victim believed was a handgun.

Police initially classified the case as a robbery. However, the victim, who knows the younger man, withdrew the complaint.
