Safe stolen from Hilo restaurant
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Big Island police are seeking help solving a burglary discovered Monday at Harrington's, a Hilo restaurant at 135 Kalaniana'ole Ave., in which one or more thieves escaped with the safe.
The crime occurred between 11 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday. A maintenance man reporting to work found the front door severely damaged.
Police estimated the loss of the safe and its contents at $15,000, but a restaurant representative said the bigger headache stemmed from the loss of keys stored there, which forced the owners to change all restaurant locks Monday.
