Swap meet for computers

WAILUKU, Maui — A county-sponsored computer swap meet will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the War Memorial Gym.

There is no charge for individuals and businesses to sell, give away or donate working computers and accessories at the "CompuSwap" event.

Repairable units brought in for disposal will be fixed and given to organizations or individuals who want them; computers that are beyond repair will be taken apart for the recycling of metals and other components.

Because obsolete or broken equipment cannot go into the landfill and must be shipped to an electronics recycler, anyone planning to drop off computers should register with the Community Work Day program ahead of time so that arrangements can be made.

Volunteers with computer knowledge are being sought to assist with CompuSwap.

For more information or to register to bring equipment to the event, call (808) 877-2524 or e-mail cwdkhb@pixi.com. Computers in good working condition also can be listed on the Aloha Shares Network and will be donated to a charity. Call (808) 572-6668 or e-mail joy@alohashares.org.
