Advertiser wins bid to handle Navy paper

The Honolulu Advertiser has won a Department of Defense contract to print, distribute and sell advertising for the Hawai'i edition of Navy News.
The contract starts in February and runs through December 2003, said Mark Adkins, senior vice president of marketing for The Advertiser.
The Navy News, a weekly publication, goes to about 15,000 readers at Pearl Harbor.
The contract is the first of its kind for The Advertiser, which until last March was forbidden under its joint operating agreement with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin to take part in print-and-sell arrangements, Adkins said. The severance of that agreement lifted the restriction.
