Flood watch issued for most islands

Advertiser Staff

The national weather service in Honolulu has issued a flood watch effective until 7 a.m. today for O'ahu, Maui, Big Island, Kaua'i, Moloka'i and Lana'i.

A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rainfall and flooding. Flooding is not imminent.

The weather service is advising people on all islands to take necessary precautions now to protect property and be prepared to take quick action if heavy rain is observed or a warning is issued.

Last night, heavy rains were pounding Kohala on the Big Island, East Maui along the road to Hana, West Maui mountains including 'Iao Valley, East Moloka'i, central O'ahu and the Koolaus and central Kaua'i. The heavy rain showers are nearly stationary or moving very slowly westward.

Motorists should be alert for flooding and should not attempt to cross fast flowing or rising water.
