"It's primarily to introduce people to the wide varieties of African culture," said Phyllis Nakasone, member of the Hawai'i Chapter of Links Inc., a service organization that promotes educational and cultural programs for and about African Americans.
Activities include storytelling, and make-and-take crafts, in which children will be able to decorate fabric that can be worn as a headdress or shoulder sash. For an extra $1, children may also dress in traditional African clothing and have their pictures taken. The program is $1, free to academy members and children 12 and younger.
