UH's Atuaia suffering possible torn ligament

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i Wahine guard April Atuaia has a possible torn ligament in his left knee, UH medical trainers said this morning.

Atuaia, a sophomore, is scheduled to undergo a magnetic resonance imagining tonight. If the MRI shows a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament, Atuaia's season will be over. An MRI is a procedure in which magnetic fields are used to capture an image of the body's interior.

Atuaia suffered the injury three minutes into Saturday night's game against Fresno State. Soon after, a medical test strongly indicated a ligament tear.

An MRI was scheduled, and UH officials said they will make an official announcement on Atuaia's condition in the next two days. It is unlikely she will play against San Jose State Saturday.

Atuaia is averaging 7.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She is second on the team with 61 assists.
