THE LEFT LANE
MTV2, 2002, second day of month, $2 concerts

It sounds almost too good to be true, but the music video-oriented MTV2 is promoting itself by offering $2 concerts on the second day of the month for the rest of the year.

The first concert is set for Feb. 2 in Los Angeles where, for $2, fans will be able to see The Strokes perform. Other concerts, to be held across the country, will feature India.Arie, Alien Ant Farm and others.

"The '$2 Bill' concert series is part fan appreciation, part celebration of great live music," said Tina Exarhos, MTV2's senior vice president of music marketing. "These special, intimate performances will bring the great new music that MTV2 is known for to key markets across the country."

Costume mission

In a pinch, the perfect costume is always hard to come by. Here's a tip on where to rent if you want period costumes from the 1820s to the 1860s: Mission Houses Museum. The accurate reproductions of garments worn by Hawai'i residents during that era include missionary men's, women's and keiki clothing. Among the pieces: waistcoats, frock coats, sailor suits, romantic empire gowns and early Victorian hoop skirts. Rentals cost $60 a week, including the cost of cleaning. Information: Tory at 531-0481, ext.14.
