Police are asking for the public's help in investigating the shooting death of an O'ahu man who was found fatally wounded late Saturday on Jack Lane near the Pali Highway.
A resident driving out of Jack Lane at about 11 p.m. saw the man lying in the middle of the street, police said.
Homicide Lt. Bill Kato said the man was critically wounded by what appeared to be three gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Shell casings were found in the area, leading police to think the man was shot on Jack Lane shortly before he was found.
The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died about an hour later.
Kato said authorities worked yesterday to confirm the man's identity and notify his family.
The man appears to be in his late 30s or early 40s, Kato said. He is not thought to be a resident of Jack Lane.
Detectives had no suspects last night, Kato said.
Police asked that anyone who might have seen anything in the area of Jack Lane near Pali Highway between about 10:30 and 11 p.m. call the police Criminal Investigation Unit at 529-3115.
People who have information but wish to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 955-8300 or by dialing *CRIME on a cellular telephone.
Several lanes of Pali Highway, Honolulu-bound, were closed as police investigated the case late Saturday and early yesterday.
