Great day for golf and an ace

Advertiser Staff

HOWARD K.O. CHONG JR.
Sept. 15, 2000
Waikele Golf Club
Hole No. 3, 152 yards, 5-iron

It was a great day for golf at Waikele. Curtis Yee, Stewart Brissette and I were standing on the tee box of the par-3 eighth hole looking at the flag some 152 yards away.

Brissette hit first and put his ball on the green. Yee hit next, and with his eagle eyes acknowledged that, he, too, was also on the green.

Not wanting to be the odd man out I mustered my best 5-iron shot and hit the ball "right on the screws." I watched it arch dead towards the pin, but lost sight of it with my less-than-20-20 vision.

"You're on," Yee announced. "Jeez, it went in — ace!"

"No way," I said.

"No bull," he replied.

High fives go around. I race the cart up to the green, stroll over to the hole, look down and there it is.

What a great day for golf.
