THE LEFT LANE
Pussycat gig expands

Advertiser Staff and News Services

As if the trippy nocturnal activities of its weekly house, breaks and hip-hop haven Pussycat Lounge itself weren't already enough, Wave Waikiki has added "The Glitter and Glamour Experience" to its popular Tuesday meow mixer.

Joining Los Angeles progressive house DJ PAULe (Biohazard Crew), DJ Charles Lee, DJ KSM and The Stone Groove Family for the monthly self-expression-and-fashion-themed Pussycat night Tuesday will be make-up and hair artists from MAC Cosmetics, Sanctuary Salon and Schmooze Cosmetics. There also will be an exhibition from local artist Sequoia, free massages from Paul Brown Salon, and fire performers. Yes, with real fire.

Future GG&E nights will offer similarly funky blends of entertainment and expression. The Pussycat Lounge happens from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. each Tuesday. Cover is $10. Call 941-0424, ext. 12, or see www.pussycatprojects.com.

Chili Peppers coming

Anthony Keidis is the vocalist for Red Hot Chili Peppers
Los Angeles-based funk-rockers and amateur sock puppeteers The Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced their intent to do a single Blaisdell Arena concert at 7 p.m. on July 31.

Tickets, $45 plus service charges, go on sale Saturday at 9 a.m. Tickets will be available at the Blaisdell box office, TicketPlus outlets and the University of Hawai'i Campus Center. Charge by phone at 526-4400 or online at www.tickets.com.

The group's latest album, "By The Way" — giving us the Chili Peppers in alternately fun-loving, dark and melancholy moods — is set for release Tuesday on Warner Bros. Records.

The band — now made up of co-founders vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary, guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith — are doing just a handful of U.S. concert dates this month.

The Chili Peppers were last scheduled for a Blaisdell Arena show in July 1997, but postponed twice after Kiedis and Smith were involved in separate car accidents. A third date was cancelled. Drummer Smith was last seen locally playing bouncer/roadie at The Strokes February World Café concert.

George does Vegas

The first U.S. president has arrived in Las Vegas in time to celebrate the Independence Day. A portrait of George Washington is making its second stop in an eight-city tour as a reminder to Americans that he defined the presidency, said Marc Pachter, director of the National Portrait Gallery.

The 1796 painting by Gilbert Stuart, who also painted the dollar-bill portrait, shows Washington at the end of his second term. The portrait will remain at the Las Vegas Art Museum through Oct. 27 before traveling to Los Angeles, Seattle and other cities. The tour also features educational programs, and organizers have launched a Web site, www.georgewashington.si.edu.
