Hilo student wins scholarship

Junior Achievement of Hawaii, Inc. has selected Kurt Y. Nakamura of Hilo High School as the recipient of the 2001 Hawaii Venture Capital Deal of the Year Award scholarship.

The award includes a scholarship that the Hawaii Venture Capital Association provides to Junior Achievement of Hawaii.

Nakamura will pursue a career in business management, entrepreneurship and engineering at the University of Southern California. He was an active participant in the Junior Achievement program at Hilo High School, where he was president as well as vice president of product marketing. Ê

"We are proud to be able to encourage entrepreneurship in Hawai'i, and view Kurt as an example of how excellence in business can be encouraged at an early age," said Bill Spencer, president of Hawaii Venture Capital Association.
