Brian Green, an assistant coach in charge of hitting, outfielders and recruiting at the University of San Diego, has been named hitting coach at the University of Hawai'i.
"He has been a coach at a number of places and has a wealth of experience in the field of hitting," said UH coach Mike Trapasso.
Under Green, the Toreros led the West Coast Conference in on-base percentage, hits, runs, RBIs, doubles, triples, walks and stolen bases while ranking second in the league with a .311 batting average.
Green replaces Josh Sorge, who resigned in May as UH's hitting coach.
The Rainbows, who finished with the worst record in the program's history at 16-40, batted .253, last in the Western Athletic Conference last season.
Green also served as camp coordinator and academics counselor for San Diego, which won the WCC title last season and made its first NCAA Tournament appearance.
"He has coached at the junior college level, the Division II level and at the Division I level. He brings a lot of experience for such a young guy and he was successful at every venture," Trapasso said.
Green, who has a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State and a master's from National University, also has coached at Cal Poly Pomona, Chapman (Calif.) and Oregon State.
He is currently a head coach for the Kenai Peninsula Oilers, an Alaskan Summer League team. He will leave next week to join the Rainbow staff.
