ARENA FOOTBALL

• Islander honored: The Hawaiian Islanders' Nian Taylor was named the arenafootball2 Ford Tough National Player of the Week after his performance Saturday against the Bakersfield Blitz.

The weekly award is presented to the player who best demonstrates determination and toughness.

Taylor, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver/defensive back, caught four passes from Darnell Arceneaux for 99 yards and three touchdowns, had a key interception late in the first half and returned a missed field goal 48 yards in the 49-35 victory.

Taylor, who played at Washington State, spent the first eight games of the season with the Richmond Speed of af2.

He's been with the Islanders the past two games after being reassigned June 20 because he wanted more playing time.

The Islanders (3-10) have a bye this week and will next play July 12 at Arkansas.
