Tonight's Must-See
"Mother" (1996), 7 p.m., NBC. Audiences often ignore the low-key, offbeat humor of Albert Brooks. This film, however, offered a catchy premise, plus Debbie Reynolds' Golden Globe-nominated performance. Brooks plays a twice-divorced writer taking a drastic step: If his mom (Reynolds) is the root of his problems, he should move in with her to understand himself. Rob Morrow and Lisa Kudrow co-star.
"Save Our History: America's Most Endangered 2002," 7 p.m., History Channel. Here's the annual list by the National Trust for Historic Preservation offering 11 spots that need to be rescued. Some are large and lush. There are plans to tear down the innovative Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, only 39 years old, and build something even fancier. Others are quirky. The Gold Dome, in Oklahoma City, is a bank that has a geodesic dome that's 150-feet in diameter. There are plans to tear it down and build a drug store. Others range from the bridges of rural Indiana to the southern schools that Chicago philanthropist Julius Rosenwald financed during the days of segregation, educating more than 500,000 black students.
