Fishman will run for City Council

Advertiser Staff

Former city and state official Bob Fishman yesterday jumped into the race for City Council from the new district that stretches from Hawai'i Kai to Waikiki.

Fishman, 55, has more than 30 years' experience in management in local government, business and the military. He has served in the Army Reserve and Hawai'i Army National Guard for 31 years and was called to active duty last November to serve in Washington, D.C., as homeland security adviser to the chief of the U.S. Army Reserve. He completes that assignment at the end of this month.

In recent years, Fishman was chief executive officer of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, worked for Hawaiian Airlines and served as city managing director under Mayor Jeremy Harris.

But Fishman said Harris did not push him into making his first run at elected office.

"I am not a rubber stamp and I have never been, and there's no incentive for me to be one," he said.

Fishman has lived in Hawai'i Kai for 28 years.
