Maui service set for councilman

A memorial service on Maui for County Council member Patrick Kawano will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. It will make a contribution to the St. Francis Dialysis Center on Moloka'i in Kawano's memory.

Services were held June 28-29 on Kawano's home island of Moloka'i.

Kawano, 71, died June 22 after a long illness. He was first elected to the council in 1986.

The Maui County Council will meet Tuesday to choose someone to serve the rest of Kawano's term.
