Fire rescue crews last night searched the ocean off Waialua after a man saw a kite surfer land in the ocean.
The man said he saw a green kite flying about three miles offshore about 5 p.m.
Capt. Kenison Tejada, Fire Department spokesman, said the witness reported that he then saw the kite go into the ocean.
Fire rescue crews on the ground were joined by the department's Air One helicopter and fire boat to search the area. About 6 p.m., Tejada said, a fluorescent-green kite with yellow stripes and black lettering was found off Mokule'ia Beach.
It was uncertain whether the owner of the kite was still in the ocean last night or if that person made it to shore but failed to notify authorities.
