Fetters traded, Agbayani demoted

Advertiser News Services

Two major leaguers with Hawai'i ties were on the move yesterday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks, looking to bolster their bullpen, acquired setup man Mike Fetters from Pittsburgh for prospect Duaner Sanchez last night.

And the Colorado Rockies optioned outfielder Benny Agbayani to Triple-A Colorado Springs of the Pacific Coast League.

Fetters, an Iolani School graduate, is 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA in 32 relief appearances this season and was 2-1 in 52 games for the Pirates since they acquired him from the Dodgers for Terry Mulholland last season.

"This is what you play the game for, a chance to win a championship," Fetters, 37, said. "I hope this is my time. It couldn't have worked out much better though, believe it or not, I will miss this place."

Agbayani, a former St. Louis School and Hawai'i Pacific University standout, was batting .205 with four homers for the Rockies. He missed four weeks because of a sore hamstring.
