Waipahu boxer Brian Viloria has recovered from a wrist injury that had sidelined him for 10 days and will return to the ring July 26 in a nationally televised bout on ESPN2, his manager said yesterday.
Viloria, who suffered strained ligaments in his right wrist during a fifth-round knockout of Francisco Soto in June, has returned to the gym.
No opponent has been named for the 10-round bout in Chester, W.Va., and it isn't known whether the fight will be for Viloria's WBC youth flyweight title.
Viloria had been scheduled to fight Hugo Alberto Alvarez in a July 5 non-title bout but that was called off because of the injury and his wrist was placed in a brace.
But manager Gary Gittelsohn said: "the brace is off now and Brian is 100 percent. He's been back in the gym since (July 1) and will resume sparring this week."
Viloria, a U.S. Olympic flyweight in 2000, is 8-0 with six knockouts.
