Coast Guard, emergency agencies conducting exercises

The Coast Guard and personnel from more than 25 federal, state and county agencies are participating in disaster preparedness exercises today and tomorrow.The exercises at Sand Island and Magic Island are designed to ensure efficient coordination and prompt response from agencies that would be involved in a real emergency.
The 250 participants will practice search and rescue operations, emergency medical services, marine fire-fighting, vessel salvage, environmental protection and public information services.
"Lessons learned from this exercise will improve the response processes and plans," said Ensign William Taylor, assistant readiness officer with the 14th Coast Guard District.
