"Great Projects: The Building of America," 10 p.m., PBS. Thomas Edison's 1882 project was awesome in scope. He wanted to create a giant power unit and send electricity to an entire chunk of New York City. Edison had 1,500 workers laying innovative, underground cables, not sure the idea would work. It did.

ESPY Awards, 3 p.m., ESPN. Samuel L. Jackson returns as host of this show honoring the best in sports.
"Big Brother" season opener, 8 p.m., CBS. The first two summers of "Big Brother" have been disappointing, but CBS is ready to try again.
