Robyn Ah Mow, former University of Hawai'i All-American and a McKinley High graduate, is back with the U.S. women's national volleyball team.
Ah Mow missed the first tour of the season to Montreux, Switzerland and Russia with a stomach virus, but was back in the starting lineup when the team played Italy in four matches June 28-July 4 in Utah.
She left with the rest of Team USA, including former UH All-American Heather Bown, yesterday for China to begin the World Grand Prix, which runs from July 12-Aug. 4.
A third UH alum, Therese Crawford, sprained her ankle shortly before the Utah tour and is rehabilitating. "Hopefully she'll be back at full strength in time to vie for a spot on the World Championships roster," said USA volleyball spokesman Paul Soriano.
Kamana'o with junior team: Kanoe Kamana'o of Honolulu leaves today with the U.S. Women's Junior National Team for the hemisphere junior continental championships Friday through July 19 in Puerto Rico.
It is the second year that Kamana'o, who will be a senior at Iolani in the fall, has been on the U.S. Junior team.
Kamana'o played last week with Outrigger in the USA Girls' Junior Olympic Championships in Utah and has been practicing with Team USA at the Olympic Training Center since.
