Anti-tobacco programs supported
Advertiser Staff
Community groups interested in developing programs to control and prevent tobacco use are invited to attend informational meetings scheduled throughout the state this month.
Money for the programs is from the Hawai'i Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund of the Hawai'i Community Foundation. Hawai'i was one of 46 states that received a multimillion-dollar settlement from a lawsuit against the tobacco industry, and a portion of the settlement was set aside for the trust fund.
The program is open to any nonprofit organization or community group that wants to control tobacco use. The meetings will cover various tobacco-cessation programs and tips on how to write a grant proposal.
The meetings will be held on the following islands:
- O'ahu, July 16, 8:30-11:30 a.m., State Capitol, Room 309.
- Maui, July 16, 2:30-5:30 p.m., MEO, 99 Mahalani St., Wailuku.
- Big Island, July 17, 1-4 p.m., Tutu's House (formerly CarQuest) in Waimea.
- Kaua'i, July 18, 9 a.m.-noon, Lihu'e Library.
Reservations must be made by Friday. For information, call Clarysse Nunokawa at 537-6333 or toll-free from the Neighbor Islands at (800) 731-3863. Other information may be obtained on the Hawai'i Community Foundation Web site.
