Timely aces after recovery

Advertiser Staff

Jacqueline Hayashi recorded two aces, each one after recovering from cancer surgery more than a year apart.

Jacqueline Hayashi
Aug 22, 1998; Oct. 9, 1999.
Hawai'i Kai Golf Course (No. 1, 92 yards, 6-iron); Bay View Golf Course (No. 10, 80 yards, 7-iron).

I had received the bad news: breast cancer. I thought to myself, "Well, that's that, I will never play golf again."

But after recovering from surgery, and with a lot of encouragement from my husband, I thought, well, maybe I'll just try.

On the very first round after recovery — on the first hole no less — I had a hole-in-one.

Another surgery, more recovery, much support and encouragement from my husband.

OK, I thought, I'll try golf again.

First round of golf after recovery: hole-in-one — again.

Maybe God was saying that there was hope left for me. That miracles do happen.

Since both of the aces came in my first round back after recovery, some people have told me that was a signal to tell me that life goes on.

Additionally, both aces came after I changed my grip. Those are the the only times I have changed my grip.

Do you have a story to tell about your hole-in-one? Tell us about it. Stories must be typed and brief, around 50-100 words. The stories must include the date, course, hole, yardage and club. Return phone numbers must be listed. Holes-in-one must have been reported to The Advertiser by the golf courses. Fax submissions to 525-5491 or e-mail to: sports@honoluluadvertiser.com.
