32 UH athletes selected academic all-WAC

Thirty-two University of Hawai'i student-athletes competing in spring sports earned all-academic honors in the Western Athletic Conference.

Heading the list is baseball pitcher Aaron Pribble, who achieved a 3.95 grade-point average.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

The following are UH's spring sport honorees, followed by the freshmen/transfer award winners:

PREP FOOTBALL

• Combine scheduled: The Hawai'i Sports Network will conduct its first Pro Style Football Combine for Hawai'i high school football players July 19 at the Gerber Field House on the St. Louis High School campus.

The combine, open to high school junior and senior football players statewide, is modeled after the NFL combine for college seniors. It includes the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, bench press and other drills. Players' heights and weights will be measured.

Results and videos of the combine will be sent to college football coaches nationwide.

The daylong combine will feature Cal Lee, Al Noga and players from the Hawaiian Islanders af2 football team.

The combine is limited to 100 players. Registration fee is $25 until Sunday and includes a T-shirt, energy drink and a ticket to the July 20 Islanders game. Late registration will be $30 at Gerber Field House, July 19 at 9:30 a.m.

SAILING

• Mystic leading: Mystic, which finished the Victoria, B.C.-to-Maui race on Tuesday, is the current corrected time leader in Division A and overall.

The Santa Cruz 52, hailing from Seattle and sailing for the co-host Lahaina Yacht Club, crossed the finish line at 4:29 p.m.

Icon, which was the first boat to finish at 6:48 p.m. on Sunday, is currently in second place. Atalanta, which finished at 3:14 a.m. yesterday, is in third.

A fleet of 14 boats (six others withdrew) is competing in the 2,300-mile race that began June 25.
