THE LEFT LANE
Island flop
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Oops. In the July/August 2002 issue of Islands, a little photographic license is taken with the cover. Lanikai photographer Dana Edmunds' shot of Lanikai Beach, O'ahu, is "flipped" reversed, back to front. The result:
The Mokapu Peninsula and nearshore Mokumanu islets face the wrong way.
There have been worse gaffs, said Edmunds, who suspects the magazine's photo editor may have flipped the image for a more pleasing cover composition. "About five years ago,
the Mokulua islands (off Lanikai Beach) appeared in a travel advertisement for Australia."

Iz tops the chart
There's no stopping Braddah Iz.
The late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Alone In IZ World" catapulted to the No. 1 spot on Amazon.com's Top Sellers list on Monday after it was mentioned in Parade (July 7) and People (June 10) magazines. It's the first time a Hawai'i CD has earned that laurel.
Kamakawiwo'ole's "Facing Future" CD ranked No. 6, outselling the new releases by Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Eminem and Aerosmith. Further, "Alone in IZ World" and "Facing Future" were No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, on the Amazon.com Indie Top Sellers chart.
The vigorous sales were likely also fueled by the use of Iz's poignant rendering of "Over the Rainbow" during the "ER" episode marking the final appearance of popular cast member Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) which aired in May. Iz has also been heard in "Finding Forrester" and "Meet Joe Black."
